Composite Deck Warranties Explained: TimberTech Coverage + Our Warranty

Table of Contents

When you invest in a new deck, you want it to last. Homeowners often focus on appearance, but long-term durability and warranty protection are just as important. That’s why understanding composite deck warranties should be part of your planning process.

We choose to work with TimberTech because of their reliable product performance and strong warranty coverage. In this guide, we’ll break down what TimberTech warranties include, what they don’t, and how our own build warranty gives you even more peace of mind.

TimberTech’s Product Warranties: 25, 30, and 50 Years

TimberTech offers seven decking collections, and depending on which one you choose, it will include either a 25-year, 30-year, or 50-year product warranty. These warranties cover key failures like:

  • Bending
  • Bowing
  • Breaking
  • Fading in color

So when TimberTech says your boards won’t bow or break, they stand by it. If something does go wrong, and the issue falls under warranty protection, TimberTech will take care of it—as long as the product was installed correctly. That’s where we come in. All of our builders at Heartland Decks are fully trained in TimberTech installation standards.

Breakdown of Warranty Coverage (Example: 25-Year)

To better understand how it works, here’s what the coverage looks like for the 25-year warranty:

  1. Years 0–6: TimberTech will cover 100% of labor and material to replace the damaged product.
  2. Years 6–11: They’ll still cover 80% of labor and material costs.
  3. After 11 Years: The coverage continues, but at a reduced rate, depending on how far into the warranty you are.

Note: The breakdown varies slightly depending on which warranty duration you select (25, 30, or 50 years), but the structure is consistent.

One-Time Transferable Warranty

One of TimberTech’s best features? Their warranties are one-time transferable. If you have a deck with a 25-year warranty and decide to sell your home after five years, the new homeowner will inherit the remaining 20 years of coverage. This is a major advantage if you think you might move in the future—it adds value to your home and peace of mind for the next owner.

What the TimberTech Warranty Does NOT Cover

While the warranty is strong, there are certain things it won’t cover. We believe in being upfront with our customers about these situations:

  1. Surface Scratches: Dragging a grill or sliding furniture can leave marks. These aren’t covered. However, some light scratches can be “melted out” with heat and improved significantly.
  2. Gouges from Furniture: If a chair leg digs into a board, that damage won’t be included in the warranty.
  3. Squirrel or Animal Damage: It’s rare, but we’ve seen cases where squirrels chew on composite boards. This is considered a natural occurrence and isn’t covered.
  4. Holes from Screws or Nails: You can hang things on composite, but once a hole is made, it’s there to stay. TimberTech doesn’t offer any official product to fill or hide holes, and DIY fixes like caulk or wood filler usually won’t match—and could void the warranty.
  5. Moving Fasteners or Nails: If you put a screw or nail in the fascia and later move it, any future cracks that appear in that spot won’t be covered.

Our Added Protection: Heartland Decks’ 7-Year Build Warranty

Beyond TimberTech’s manufacturer warranty, we offer our own 7-year build warranty. That covers the structure and install work completed by our crews. Here’s what it includes:

  • Loose Joist Hangers: If one comes loose due to a bad part or manufacturer defect, we’ll fix it.
  • Severe Board Cracking: If a pressure-treated board underneath your deck cracks all the way through because it wasn’t visibly bad at install time, we’ll take care of that.
  • Improper Fastening or Frame Movement: If anything starts coming loose or shifting because of poor workmanship (which is rare), we’ll make it right.

However, natural checkering in treated wood frames (small surface cracks) is common and not covered. These don’t affect structure or performance.

Why Composite Deck Warranties Matter

A great deck isn’t just about looks—it’s about lasting value. TimberTech offers warranties that are stronger and more flexible than many of their competitors. Combine that with our trained installers and in-house build warranty, and you get a level of protection that’s hard to beat.

When you choose Heartland Decks, you’re not just buying a deck—you’re choosing a team that stands behind every board we install.
